Thom Tillis was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2014 and is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, and Judiciary Committee.
No Republican secured the 30 percent threshold necessary to avoid a runoff during the primary held on April 30, 2019. As such, Republicans Greg Murphy and Joan Perry will face-off in a July 9 primary runoff election. The winner of that contest will face Democrat Allen Thomas in the September 10 general election.
Due to voting irregularities, the results of the 2018 election were not certified. The North Carolina State Board of Elections has ordered a new election to take place.
