Top Counties to Watch on Election Night 2018 (Part 2)
Election night can be overwhelming. Polls close at different times across the country, and in some cases, different times across the same state. With Senate, gubernatorial, House, and state legislative race results coming in simultaneously, it can be difficult to know where to look for early indicators of how the night may go.
AR Intel went state by state and highlighted the most important counties to watch in each key Senate state. We’ve broken down the results into two posts – the first posted on Monday, and the second can be found below.

Senate Poll Round-Up: Republicans Ahead in AZ, MO, Close in NJ, MN
Polls are rolling in at an incredibly rate this week. With officially less than two weeks to go until Election Day, pollsters are eager to get their final surveys in the field in time to report the results, and some of those are beginning to pop up in the press now.
Republicans are up in states like Arizona, Florida, Indiana, and Missouri, but some polls also show Democrats leading in a couple of those races, too. Essentially these polls show that voters can expect a late night and some close races comes November 6th.
In somewhat surprising news, Republicans trail Democrats by five- and six-point margins respectively in New Jersey and Minnesota. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) continues to be plagued by his 2017 federal corruption trial, while Democrat Tina Smith was a no-show at a Senate debate in Minnesota earlier this week.

Senate Poll Round-Up: GOP Leads in NV & TN, Cruz Cruising in TX
Unlike the past two weeks, there were not as many battleground Senate polls released this week. Instead, this week saw polls in the closely-watched Nevada and Tennessee Senate races – both GOP-held seats that the Democrats would need to win if they were to retake control of the Senate.
The other two states featured in this week’s round up are two unexpected races: Texas and Tennessee.

Senate Poll Round-Up: Republicans Ahead in AZ, NV, TN, Tied in MO
It’s been another week and another flurry of Senate polls! By far Arizona was the most polled state this week with four newly released polls in the past seven days. The most recent poll shows Republican Martha McSally leading her Democrat opponent.
Republicans are also leading in contests in Nevada, North Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas. And keep a close eye on Missouri – the latest poll, conducted by Fox News, shows Republican Josh Hawley tied with Democrat Claire McCaskill. But the RealClearPolitics polling average now favors Hawley, meaning that the contest could be trending in the Republican’s direction.

AR Intel Week Ahead: 10-01-18
There are just 36 days left until the 2018 election.
The House is out for recess this week and will not return until after the midterm elections, giving its members opportunities for last-minute campaigning
The Senate has two items on its agenda for this week: voting on the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization and Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
For Kavanaugh… A week-long FBI investigation was agreed to last Friday and is expected to conclude late this week. Votes on his nomination are expected to follow in short order.

Axios: Brutal poll: Democrats’ Senate dream slips away
To win the Senate, Democrats need to keep all 10 seats they’re defending in states that President Trump won in 2016 — plus pick up two more seats.
Why it matters: That’s not happening. A new Axios/SurveyMonkey poll of key states shows Dems would lose three of those red-state seats while picking up two GOP seats — still short of the majority.

Rothenberg: Why I’m Cautious About Phil Bredesen’s Prospects in Tennessee
Two early surveys show former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat, holding a lead over Republican Rep. Marcia Blackburn in hypothetical ballot tests of this year’s Senate race.
Those polls, along with kind words about Bredesen from retiring Tennessee GOP Sen. Bob Corker, have raised the contest’s profile and heightened the buzz. But it’s best to be cautious about the former governor’s prospects as you watch the race play out.

Senate Democrats’ Q1 Fundraising Numbers
In a midterm election cycle that typically favors the party not holding the White House, fundraising will be one barometer to measure whether that dynamic holds true in 2018. However, even with those potential electoral headwinds, Democrats will be defending 10 Senate seats located in states President Trump won in 2016.
