Race Rundown: Trump & GOP Pull In Massive Fundraising Haul

NATIONAL

President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign and the RNC raised $125 million in the third quarter of the year. According to officials, they have raised more than $308 million in 2019 and have more than $156 million in the bank. (The Associated Press, 10/1/19)

  • WinRed, the new GOP online fundraising platform, has raised over $28 million since launching three months ago, the group announced. (Fox News, 10/1/19)

The RNC launched a national counter-impeachment campaign called “Stop the Madness” on Monday, targeting House Democrats and vowing to cause “chaos” in response to the formal impeachment inquiry against President Trump. (Fox News, 9/30/19)

The DNC announced that it is funding full-time staff in eight presidential election battleground states. The central party body is financing the hiring in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. (The Huffington Post, 9/30/19)


PRESIDENTIAL

Politico: “Kamala Harris Shakes Up Flailing Campaign” (Politico, 9/30/19)

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s White House campaign announced a $6 million media effort on broadcast and digital channels across all four early primary and caucus states this week. (The Hill, 10/3/19)

Bernie Sanders unveiled his first television commercial of the 2020 presidential campaign, casting himself as a proven warrior for workers and those struggling to get by. The Sanders campaign said the television ad is part of a $1.3 million buy in Iowa. (The Washington Times, 10/1/19)

  • On Wednesday, Sanders’ campaign said that the Democratic presidential candidate had a heart procedure for a blocked artery and was canceling events and appearances “until further notice.” (The Associated Press, 10/2/19)

Bernie Sanders’ raised more than $25 million in the third quarter of his presidential campaign, his aides announced Tuesday. (Politico, 10/1/19)

  • Pete Buttigieg raised $19.1 million for his presidential campaign during the last three months, his campaign said Tuesday. (The New York Times, 10/1/19)

  • Joe Biden raised $15.2 million in the third quarter, his campaign said, a dropoff of $7 million from the previous quarter. (The New York Times, 10/3/19)

  • Kamala Harris raised $11.6 million in the third quarter of 2019, her campaign announced, a sum that is consistent with her previous hauls. (CNN, 10/1/19)

  • Andrew Yang’s campaign announced that he raised $10 million in the third quarter. (Politico, 10/2/19)

POLL: This week’s national Morning Consult poll of Democratic primary voters found former Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE) leading the field for President with support from 32% of those polled. He is followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) (21%), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) (19%), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) (6%), and Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-IN) (5%). (Morning Consult, 10/1/19)

SENATE NATIONAL

According to a new nation-wide Hill-HarrisX poll, 54% of registered independent voters support Republicans keeping the Senate in 2020, compared to 46% who preferred that Democrats win back control of the upper chamber. (The Hill, 10/1/19)


SENATE ARIZONA

On Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence attended a private fundraiser in Phoenix to support Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ). (State Press, 10/3/19)

A new Crooked Media poll showed Democrat Mark Kelly leading Sen. McSally among all voters, 50% to 47%. (Crooked Media, 10/3/19)

Entrepreneur Blake Masters, a Republican from Tucson, said he may mount a primary challenge to Sen. McSally for the GOP nomination in 2020. (The Arizona Republic, 10/2/19)

SENATE GEORGIA

Democratic Senate candidate Jon Ossoff will report raising $800,000 in the three weeks since he entered the race to unseat Republican Sen. David Perdue, ending the latest fundraising quarter with $1.3 million in cash on hand. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 10/1/19)

  • Democrat Sarah Riggs Amico raised more than $710,000 in the third quarter for her Senate campaign in Georgia, her campaign said. (Politico, 10/2/19)

House Speaker Pro Tempore Jan Jones (R-GA) announced she had submitted an application to Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) seeking appointment to replace retiring Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA). (The Associated Press, 9/30/19)

  • On Thursday, former Congressman Jack Kingston announced that he had submitted an application to Kemp seeking appointment to Isakson’s seat. (The Associated Press, 10/3/19)

  • Jackie Gingrich Cushman (R-GA), an author and financial analyst who is the daughter of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, also submitted her resume to formally be considered for the open seat. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution, 10/2/19)

Matt Lieberman, the son of former Connecticut senator and vice-presidential candidate Joe Lieberman, announced he will run in the special election for the seat being vacated by Sen. Isakson. (Politico, 10/3/19)

SENATE MICHIGAN

John James (R-MI)

Republican Michigan Senate candidate John James announced he raised more than $3 million in the third quarter of 2019, the largest third quarter off-year fundraising haul for a Senate campaign in Michigan in at least a decade. The more than $3 million in the third quarter came from more than 30,000 donors. (The Washington Examiner, 10/1/19)

A Target Insyght statewide survey showed Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) leading John James 53% to 37%. (Lansing City Pulse, 10/3/19)


SENATE MONTANA

Cora Neumann (D-MT), who started an organization to tap the power of First Ladies around the world and has spent most of her career working on public health issues, said Tuesday she is running as a Democrat for U.S. Senate in Montana. (Helena Independent Record, 10/1/19)


SENATE NEW HAMPSHIRE

Corey Lewandowski told a local radio host Tuesday “it’s fair” to say he is reconsidering a Senate run in order to defend President Donald Trump from impeachment and help him get reelected. (Politico, 10/1/19)


SENATE NORTH CAROLINA

North Carolina Democratic Senate candidate Cal Cunningham announced he raised more than $1 million in the third quarter and has $1.1 million cash on hand. (NPR-Charlotte, 10/2/19)


SENATE SOUTH CAROLINA

A new poll commissioned by Collective PAC, a national organization dedicated to electing black candidates, showed Democrat Jamie Harrison trailing Sen. Lindsey Graham by 7 percentage points. (McClatchy, 9/30/19)

Harrison’s campaign announced that he raised $2.1 million in the third quarter and ended the quarter with more than $2.6 million in cash on hand. (Politico, 10/2/19)


SENATE TENNESSEE

Marquita Bradshaw, a Memphis environmentalist and activist with ties to national labor groups, is entering the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Lamar Alexander. (Nashville Post, 10/3/19)


SENATE TEXAS

Midland City Councilman John B. Love III announced he is running for the Democratic nomination to challenge Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) next year. (Your Basin, 10/3/19)

KS-03: Former Roeland Park Mayor Adrienne Foster filed paperwork to run as a Republican for the Kansas Third Congressional District seat, expanding the field of candidates hoping to challenge incumbent first-term Democrat Sharice Davids in 2020. (Shawnee Mission Post, 10/2/19)


HOUSE MICHIGAN

MI-08: Nikki Snyder (R-MI), a member of the state Board of Education, announced she intends to challenge freshman Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) next year. (Detroit Free Press, 10/1/19)

MN-01: Dan Feehan (D-MN), an Army veteran and former teacher, announced he will challenge Rep. Jim Hagedorn, the first-term Republican who defeated Feehan in 2018. (The Star Tribune, 10/1/19)

MN-08: Quinn Nystrom (D-MN), a vocal advocate for people with diabetes, announced she is launching campaign for Congress to challenge first-term Republican Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN). (The Star Tribune, 10/3/19)


HOUSE NEW YORK

NY-11: Richard Olivier-Marius (D-NY) became the first Democrat to step up to challenge freshman Rep. Max Rose (D-NY), who has come under fire in recent days from his progressive base for his position on an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. (SILive.com, 10/1/19)

NY-22: Claudia Tenney (R-NY) jumped into a crowded Republican race for Congress in New York’s 22nd Congressional District, seeking to reclaim the seat she lost to Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D-NY) last year. (Roll Call, 10/1/19)

NY-27: Rep. Chris Collins announced his resignation from Congress after he pled guilty to felony charges of insider trading. (The Daily Beast, 9/30/19)

TX-13: Rep. Mac Thornberry announced that he will not run for reelection next year, making the 13-term lawmaker the sixth Texas Republican in Congress to announce their retirement ahead of the 2020 election. (Dallas Morning News, 9/30/19)

TX-28: During appearances last weekend in Austin House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Cheri Bustos, the head of the House Democrats’ campaign arm, made their support for Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) clear as he faces a primary challenge from his left. (The Texas Tribune, 9/30/19)

HOUSE WASHINGTON

WA-08: Jesse Jensen (R-WA), a former Army captain and Amazon manager, announced she will contest freshman Rep. Kim Schrier’s (D-WA) in 2020 for Washington’s 8th Congressional District. (Seattle Times, 10/1/19)


HOUSE WISCONSIN

WI-07: Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI) will have to reschedule the special election to fill the vacant 7th Congressional District seat following concerns his original date violated federal law. The issue was raised by the U.S. Department of Justice, which found Evers’ special election schedule violated federal law that requires at least 45 days between a primary and general election for overseas absentee ballots. (Lacrosse Tribune, 10/2/19)

WI-07: Michael Oela (R-WI), a hobby farmer, announced his candidacy for the seat formerly held by Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI), who retired last week. He joins two other Republicans who have already declared – veteran Jason Church and Senator Tom Tiffany. (ABC-Eau Claire, 9/30/19)
