After a rather slow week celebrating the July 4th holiday, D.C. kicked back into high gear this week with a presidential nomination to the Supreme Court. President Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, and Democrats began twisting themselves into pretzels to oppose the pick.
On the Senate front, second quarter fundraising numbers are beginning to pour in from Democrats and Republicans alike. A new poll showed Rep. Martha McSally leading the GOP field in the Arizona primary and the general election within the margin of error. And Trump will visit Missouri to host a fundraiser for state Attorney General Josh Hawley later this month.
On the House side, the Cook Political Report moved the PA-01 race from “Toss Up” to “Leans Republican,” in favor of Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce released a new ad backing Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) in her runoff.
