Positive trends continue for Republicans this week, as we inch closer to the general election this November. A new CNN report indicates more independents are saying they’ll back Republican candidates over Democrats, which could take the energy out of the so-called “Blue Wave” Democrats are hoping will sweep Republicans out of Congress.
On the Senate front, Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ) officially filed her signatures to appear on the GOP ballot this August. Her campaign also released a poll showing her in the lead in the Republican primary. In Tennessee, President Donald Trump held a rally in support of Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who will run against former Gov. Phil Bredesen (D-TN) this fall.
A set of big primary contests will be decided next week in California, and Democrats are worried they could be shut out of the general election in some contests thanks to the state’s “jungle primary” rules. And another GOP retirement in the House, this one in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, means another seat is up for grabs.
