Race Rundown: 05-11-18

May 11, 2018

President Donald Trump’s approval rating is on the rise, according to a pair of new polls released this week. That’s good news for down-ballot Republicans hoping to stem the tide of a so-called “blue wave” coming in November. And speaking of that blue wave, some are saying the “wave” may end up being more like a “ripple,” and Politico declared this week that Democrats have already lost the Senate.

Why? Key Senate primaries took place this week in Indiana and West Virginia. Republicans avoided nominating inexperienced candidates and look poised to flip Democrat-held seats in November. According to Roll Call, nine of the top 10 most vulnerable senators are Democrats.

And on the House front, a huge infusion of cash from billionaire Sheldon Adelson is helping boost the efforts of the Congressional Leadership Fund, the group focused on preserving a GOP majority in the House.
