Latest Poll Shows Tammy Baldwin’s Rising Unpopularity

March 12, 2018

A new Marquette University Law School poll, released last week, showed Wisconsin voters may be growing tired of Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).

The highly respected poll has tracked Wisconsin voters’ opinion of Baldwin since before she was first elected in 2012, asking if voters had a favorable or unfavorable view of the Madison native.

A look at the most recent polling done by law school reveals voters’ unfavorable opinions of Baldwin have been on the rise since June 2016.

Tammy Baldwin Unpopular Poll

While voters had a net positive view of Baldwin back in 2016, 37 saying they had a favorable view of the junior senator and 33 with an unfavorable view, Baldwin’s negatives have steadily been on the rise in recent months, and those positions are now reversed, with more Wisconsinites viewing Baldwin unfavorably.

The latest Marquette University Law School poll showed just 37 percent held a favorable opinion of Baldwin while 39 percent held an unfavorable view.

Baldwin has been a persistent target of ad dollars spent against her reelection efforts. Groups like Americans for Prosperity, Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, and most recently Concerned Veterans for America have each run ads against Baldwin. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, these groups have already spent more than $9 million against Baldwin to date.

Could we be seeing the impact of those ad dollars?
