The U.S. economy added 312,000 jobs in the month of December, according to a new report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That number shattered the figure experts predicted of about 180,000 new jobs added.
The unemployment rate ticked up slightly from 3.7 percent in November to 3.9 percent in December, a sign that more Americans are again actively looking for work.
Industries that added the most jobs last month include health care, food services, manufacturing, and construction.
Additionally, hourly earnings rose in December by 0.4 percent from the previous month and are up 3.2 percent for the year, according to analysts.
