Welcome back! It’s a new year, a short week, and we are on Day 12 of the partial government shutdown. On Thursday, House Democrats plan to pass legislation to reopen the government, but it’s not clear that it will pass the Republican-controlled Senate. Democrats are also expected to elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as the next Speaker of the House, making her the first returning speaker since Sam Rayburn in the 1950s.
President Donald Trump will host briefing with Congressional leaders on border security in the Situation Room.
After a day after writing a scathing op-ed on President Trump, Mitt Romney will appear on “The Lead with Jake Tapper” at 4pm.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) will have her first TV interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow after announcing that she formed an exploratory committee for President in 2020.
Rep. Pelosi will be interviewed on the “Today Show” prior to newly elected House members voting on whether she will be become the next speaker of the House.
If you have no Friday night plans, Pelosi will host a town hall on MSNBC at 10pm
