Former Rep. Brad Ashford (D-NE), running to reclaim a Nebraska congressional seat after losing it in 2016, is bragging on the campaign trail that his work on the House Armed Services Committee helped to defeat ISIS.
But the representative is overstating his contribution to the committee, as he skipped almost half of the panel’s hearings. Ashford did not attend over 40 percent of the hearings, including critical hearings surrounding U.S. strategy against ISIS.
Here are four notable examples of meetings regarding the fight against Islamic State that the Democrat missed.
Ashford’s inattention to national security threats may have been one of the reasons that Nebraska voters tossed him from Congress in 2016 in favor of Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE). The Democrat’s attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of 2018 voters probably won’t work this time either.
